Hope Beyond The End: Save the Date

Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. —John 14:1-3
Big Idea: Jesus is preparing a place for us, but that place would be nothing without Jesus.
Big Question: What is Jesus preparing for us?
Main Scripture: Revelation 21:1-5
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared (gone). And the sea was also gone. —Revelation 21:1
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.” 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” 5a And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” —Revelation 21:2-5a
What is Jesus preparing for us?
1. A place that is always new
So far from sitting on clouds playing harps, as people often imagine, the redeemed people of God in the new world will be the agents of his love going out in new ways, to accomplish new creative tasks, to celebrate and extend the glory of his love. —N.T. Wright
What is Jesus preparing for us?
1. A place that is always new
2. A presence that is unfiltered
I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. 24 The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory. —Revelations 21:22-24
To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. 7 All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children. —Revelation 21:6b-7
What is Jesus preparing for us?
1. A place that is always new
2. A presence that is unfiltered
3. A pain that will be no more
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world. —C.S. Lewis
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life. 20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! —Revelation 22:17, 20
