MY NOTES

HE IS RISEN!

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭27:57‭-‬62‬ ‭NLT‬
[57] As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who had become a follower of Jesus, [58] went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. [59] Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long sheet of clean linen cloth. [60] He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance and left. [61] Both Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting across from the tomb and watching. [62] The next day, on the Sabbath, the leading priests and Pharisees went to see Pilate.

The Guard at the Tomb

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭27:63‭-‬64‬ ‭NIV‬
[63] “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ [64] So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭27:65‭-‬66‬ ‭NLT‬
[65] Pilate replied, “Take guards and secure it the best you can.” [66] So they sealed the tomb and posted guards to protect it.

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭28:1‭-‬4‬ ‭NLT‬
[1] Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. [2] Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. [3] His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. [4] The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭28:5‬ ‭NIV‬
[5] The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭28:6‬ ‭NLT‬
[6] He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.

THE SAME MIGHTY POWER

  • ‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:19‭-‬20‬ ‭NLT‬
[19] I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power [20] that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

THE SEVEN STATEMENTS JESUS MADE FROM THE CROSS:

“I THIRST”

  • ‭John‬ ‭19:28‬ ‭NKJV‬
[28] After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”

  • ‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:15‬ ‭NIV‬
[15] For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

  • ‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:15‬ ‭NLT‬
[15] This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

  • ‭Hebrews‬ ‭2:17‬ ‭NIV‬
[17] For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

“MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭27:46‬ ‭ESV‬
[46] And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

As painful as the physical torture was, many believe this was the most painful moment. The moment that Jesus experienced the weight of the sin.

  • ‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:21‬ ‭NASB1995‬
[21] He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

  • ‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭NLT‬
[24] He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.

“IT IS FINISHED”

  • ‭John‬ ‭19:30‬ ‭NLT‬
[30] When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

  • ‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:25‭-‬26‬ ‭NLT‬
[25] And he did not enter heaven to offer himself again and again, like the high priest here on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the blood of an animal. [26] If that had been necessary, Christ would have had to die again and again, ever since the world began. But now, once for all time, he has appeared at the end of the age to remove sin by his own death as a sacrifice.

  • ‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭NLT‬
[18] Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.

“FATHER, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT.”

  • ‭Luke‬ ‭23:46‬ ‭NLT‬
[46] Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last.

  • ‭Psalms‬ ‭39:4‬ ‭NLT‬
[4] “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is.

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭6:25‭-‬27‬ ‭NIV‬
[25] “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? [26] Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? [27] Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭6:32‬ ‭NLT‬
[32] These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭6:33‬ ‭ESV‬
[33] But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭6:34‬ ‭NLT‬
[34] “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

“DEAR WOMAN, HERE IS YOUR SON. HERE IS YOUR MOTHER.”

  • ‭John‬ ‭19:26‭-‬27‬ ‭NLT‬
[26] When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” [27] And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.

  • ‭Psalms‬ ‭68:6‬ ‭NLT‬
[6] God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

  • ‭1 John‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭NIV‬
[1] See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

  • ‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:19‬ ‭NLT‬
[19] So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.

Jesus didn’t come and give His life to build an organization, congregation, or denomination, he came to rescue sons and daughters back into His royal family.

“FATHER, FORGIVE THEM, FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO.”

  • ‭Luke‬ ‭23:34‬ ‭ESV‬
[34] And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.

  • ‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:31‭-‬32‬ ‭NLT‬
[31] Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. [32] Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

  • ‭Colossians‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭NLT‬
[13] Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

“TODAY YOU WILL BE WITH ME IN PARADISE.”

  • ‭Luke‬ ‭23:43‬ ‭ESV‬
[43] And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

  • ‭Romans‬ ‭5:6‭-‬8‬ ‭NLT‬
[6] When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. [7] Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. [8] But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

  • ‭Romans‬ ‭5:9‭-‬11‬ ‭NLT‬
[9] And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. [10] For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. [11] So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

  • ‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‭-‬10‬ ‭NIV‬
[8] For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— [9] not by works, so that no one can boast. [10] For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

  • ‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭NKJV‬
[16] Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

  • ‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭NLT‬
[16] So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

  • ‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭NLT‬
[14] We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you.

  • ‭Romans‬ ‭6:4‬ ‭NLT‬
[4] For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

  • ‭Romans‬ ‭6:5‬ ‭NIV‬
[5] For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.
