WEEK 8: KEEP FOLLOWING THROUGH THE CHAOS

1 Peter 3:8-14

How does Peter tell us to respond when the world is on edge?

1. Stick

Live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be
compassionate and humble. 1 Peter 3:8

2. Speak

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because
to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For, “Whoever would
love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from
deceitful speech. 1 Peter 3:9–10

3. Seek

…turn from evil and do goodseek peace and pursue it. 1 Peter 3:11

4. Stop

“Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.” 1 Peter 3:14 (Quoting Isaiah 8:13)

By His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you… 1 Peter 1:3,4a

QUESTIONS

For personal reflection or group discussion

  1. Please read 1 Peter 3:8. How do you think staying in fellowship with others through friendships, church, and your small group helps you have hope when the world feels hopeless? Decide today to make a connection with one person who will lift you up, and one person you can lift up.

  2. Read 1 Peter 3:9–10. When do you most struggle with speaking positively?
Why is that? What standard of speech do these verses call you to? How can you do that today?

  3. Read 1 Peter 3:11–13. What is one way you can pursue peace in your
    life and relationships today?

  4. Please read Isaiah 8:11–13 & 1 Peter 3:14. What is happening in the world around you right now that causes you to fear? What truths about God can you focus on that will diminish your fears?

  5. Read 1 Peter 4:19. What are the two things Peter tells us to do in this verse? How can you do them today?
