Gratitude, in the Bible, means extending favor towards or giving grace and kindness as a response.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. —1 Thessalonians 5:18
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. —Psalm 100:4
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. —Philippians 4:6
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. —Colossians 3:15
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. —Colossians 3:17
Gratitude is mentioned a lot in the Bible because it helps us develop all the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). By being grateful to God, we’ll have joy, peace, and self-control, be patient, kind, gentle, and generous toward others, and be utterly faithful to God. Gratitude is at the root of your spiritual growth.
What About Us?
It’s easy to be grateful when things are going well. But when challenges come our way, most of us tend to fall into a negative headspace where there’s no space for gratefulness or hope.
Whenever you struggle to be grateful, the best solution is to go back to Scripture. Remind yourself that everything happens according to God’s will, and He will give you the peace and strength needed to push through.
When things go well, it goes to your head. When things go bad, it goes to your heart.
We must recognize the source of blessings in our lives and who to thank for it.
Witnesses are not judge and jury for those who don’t know Jesus. They are voices proclaiming how He has changed their lives!
Gratitude turns what little you have into abundance.
Gratitude changes our perspective of this broken world.
Gratitude expressed through us translates to hope for others.
