You Forget Something?
Giving thanks
Senior Pastor Karl Miller, Jr.
Part of Thanksgiving, the believer's posture
November 17, 2019

Resolve the believer to acknowledge and thank God for all HIS bountiful blessing and favor; revealing the amazing blessing that a life steeped in thanksgiving experiences, as heartfelt thanks toward God constructs an atmosphere of intimate exchange with heaven

Then one of them, upon seeing that he was cured, turned back, recognizing and thanking and praising God with a loud voice; And he fell prostrate at Jesus’ feet, thanking Him [over and over]. And he was a Samaritan.
Then Jesus asked, Were not [all] ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was there no one found to return and to recognize and give thanks and praise to God except this alien? —Luke 17:15-18 (AMPC)

Giving thanks is both expressing gratitude, and appreciating and acknowledging an action that brought joy, peace, provision or benefit into one’s life

Don’t Thanksgiving

  • Thanksgiving is often discounted in being a necessary part of intimate relationship with God

  • Thanksgiving is essential to intimate relationship with God

As believers/followers of Christ, we must:
      • Break up our hard soil and root out this way of thinking
      • Not take our opportunities of giving thanks and glorifying God as Trivial, Traditional or Taxing

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes. —Romans 12:2 (TPT)

  • Thanksgiving is the believer’s posture

Lift up a great shout of joy to the Lord!
Go ahead and do it—everyone, everywhere!
As you serve him, be glad and worship him.
Sing your way into his presence with joy!
And realize what this really means—
we have the privilege of worshiping the Lord our God.
For he is our Creator and we belong to him.
We are the people of his pleasure.
You can pass through his open gates with the password of praise.
Come right into his presence with thanksgiving.
Come bring your thank offering to him
and affectionately bless his beautiful name!
For the Lord is always good and ready to receive you.
He’s so loving that it will amaze you—
so kind that it will astound you!
And he is famous for his faithfulness toward all.
Everyone knows our God can be trusted,
for he keeps his promises to every generation! —Psalms 100:2-5 (TPT)

  • Thanksgiving, in the Kingdom of God, is expressed with our , in our and, sometimes, through our

David was in deep trouble because the troops were talking about stoning him. Each of the soldiers was deeply distressed about their sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God. David said to the priest Abiathar, Ahimelech’s son, “Bring the priestly vest to me.” So Abiathar brought it to David.
Then David asked the LORD, “Should I go after this raiding party? Will I catch them?”
“Yes, go after them!” God answered. “You will definitely catch them and will succeed in the rescue!” —1 Samuel 30:6-8 (TPT)

David rescued everything that the Amalekites had taken, including his own two wives. Nothing was missing from the plunder or anything that they had taken, neither old nor young, son nor daughter. David brought everything back. David also captured all the sheep and cattle, which were driven in front of the other livestock. The troops said, “This is David’s plunder!” —1 Samuel 30:18-19 (TPT)
