READ AGAIN: Luke 7:36-50
- Jesus was either the biggest charlatan the world has ever known or He was the most amazing person to have ever walked on the face of the planet. Why is this so?
- Why is it ironic that a Pharisee is inviting Jesus over for a banquet? (cf. v.34)
- What makes the first 2 verses of our passage so intriguing? (vs. 36-37)
- What this woman did during the banquet was audacious. Why is that the case?
- Does reading through the description of her actions make you feel a bit uncomfortable? Why or why not?
- What types of things do you do when you have guests over for dinner?
- This woman models a devotion to Jesus that doesn’t care what others think. How do you need to follow this example better in your own life?
- The Pharisee concludes “to himself” that Jesus cannot be a prophet. How does he reach this conclusion and why does Jesus’ response show it to be false?
- In Jesus’ parable, 2 people owe a moneylender and neither can pay. If the moneylender is God and the debt is what we owe for sin, what does this parable tell us about ourselves? (vs.41-42)
- Why do you think the Pharisee didn’t do anything that was customary for Jesus? (vs. 44-46)
- Do you always see people as Jesus sees them or is that something that you struggle with?
- In verse 49, the people ask again, “Who is this?” Why do Jesus’ words and actions force us to reckon with that question?
- In the passage, one person’s sin is exposed and the other’s is said to have been forgiven. What’s the difference between the two people?
- What adjustments will you make in your life starting this week because of this passage?
