Matthew 15:8-9
‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’” NLT


Worship = Contributing worth to God through the laying down of your will and ways to the authority of His will and ways.


Main Idea:

Picking up your cross and following Jesus means walking in a rhythm worship.

True worship is responding to who God is by what we do.


Genesis 22:1-5
Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” 2 “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” … Vs. 5 “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there (Hebrew Shachah = Bow down/Prostrate oneself), and then we will come right back.”


How did Abraham worship through his actions?
He was willing to put God above even his most valuable treasure.


2 Samuel 6:21b-22
… 21b I will celebrate before the Lord. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. NIV

How did David worship through his actions?
He was unashamed to let his love for God be shown by his outward expressions.


Matthew 4:18-22
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew….19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John… Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. How did the disciple’s worship through their actions?
They walked away from everything they knew to follow Jesus.


Luke 22:41-42
41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” NIV


How did Jesus worship through his actions?
Gave His life on the Cross
