Acts 5:3a, 4b (NIV)
Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit … .”
“What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
A Little Primer
- There’s no shortage of confusion and even chaos associated with matters of the Holy Spirit.
- Failure to address the Holy Spirit leads to an under-appreciation for the person, power, and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and churches – as well as a lack of expectation.
John 6:63 (NIV)
“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing.”
- Our understanding and discernment of the Holy Spirit must be influenced more by God’s Word than others’ distortions.
John 16:7 (NIV)
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
Acts 1:4-5, 8 (NIV)
“… wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit … . (vs. 8) you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 2:37-39 (NIV)
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
