In Times of Transition …

  • Be wary of drifting into nostalgia.

Ecclesiastes 7:10 (NIV)
Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

John 5:17 (NIV)
“My Father is always at his work to this very day … .”

  • Be wary of drifting into amnesia.

Isaiah 46:8-10(NIV)
“Remember this, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’”

Romans 15:4 (NIV)
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

  • Remember Jesus Christ; this is our Gospel.

2 Timothy 2:8 (NIV)
Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel … .

2 Timothy 2:14, 16, 23 (NIV)
Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Avoid godless chatter … . Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.
