
Let’s Roll (Part 3) – Joshua 1:6-7
Todd Beamer was on one of the hijacked planes on 9/11. The plane was believed to be heading towards Washington D.C. A group of passengers on board rallied together and made a plan to overtake the cockpit. On a phone call with his wife, the last words she heard Todd say were, “Let’s roll.”
6Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. —Joshua 1:6-7

It appears frequently in a commissioning formula with the verb חָזַק (ḥāzaq) in order to accomplish what God has spoken: “Be strong and courageous” (e.g., Deut 31:6; Josh 1:6).

This formulaic expression occurs many times in Deuteronomy, indicating that Yahweh is referring to the laws of that book. Joshua’s primary duty is not military but spiritual. —Faithlife Study Bible

Our Takeaway: Strength and Courage are needed to follow God to His promises. This is a spiritual exercise more than a physical one. How is your spiritual walk?
