Setting and Symbolism (26:17-25)

  • The Feast of Unleavened Bread and Passover is a celebration of the Exodus

  • “My time is at hand” – a moment in history or someone’s life
  • “reclined at table” – pictures the God had given after release from slavery
  • “one of you will betray Me” – Being handed over is now laid out explicitly
  • “Lord?” or “Rabbi?” – Judas’ address His commitment
  • “Take, eat; this is my body” – (Is 53) representing Jesus’ coming
  • “… blood of the covenant” – (Jer. 31:31-34) representing the covenant between God and man
  • “… not drink again until with you” – Jesus will come for His bride at a time
