Setting and Symbolism (26:17-25)
- The Feast of Unleavened Bread and Passover is a celebration of the Exodus
- Jesus sends the disciples ahead of Him to secure a place for the Passover meal
- “My time is at hand” – a
moment in history or someone’s life - “reclined at table” – pictures the
God had given after release from slavery - “one of you will betray Me” – Being handed over is now laid out explicitly
- “Lord?” or “Rabbi?” – Judas’ address
His commitment - “Take, eat; this is my body” – (Is 53) representing Jesus’ coming
- “… blood of the covenant” – (Jer. 31:31-34) representing the
covenant between God and man - “… not drink again until with you” – Jesus will come for His bride at a
time
