I Peter1:15-16
“…but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”
God calls us to be holy because it is the only way to be compatible with Him.
Holy = That which is compatible with God; that which is in harmony with His nature and His ways.
Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
Isaiah 6:2,3
Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.”
Revelation 4:8 b
And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, “HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME.”
6 Definitions of Holiness
1. Holiness is thinking like God thinks.
2. Holiness is loving what God loves and hating what He hates.
3. Holiness is desiring God’s approval over the approval of anyone else.
4. Holiness is desiring to be like Christ above any other thing.
5. Holiness is pursuing God with all of your heart, mind and strength.
6. Holiness is having the willingness and courage to discriminate between right and wrong.
True holiness is opposite of being “holier than thou” because it begins with an awareness of our own sinfulness and need before God.

For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.
