IN A MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGES (ACTS 10 & 11)
I. Spoiler Alert: Gentiles Are Not Second-Class Christians
• Acts 10 & 11 overview
• The early church was Jewish; Gentiles had to convert to Judaism to follow Jesus
• Acts 10 breaks this system wide open

Scriptures:
• Acts 10:1-6
• Acts 10:9-16
• Acts 10:28-29
• Acts 10:44-48
• Acts 11:18

II. We Must Let God Rewrite What We Think We Know
• Peter is confronted with a vision that challenges his theology
• The church at large is forced to confront their bias and limitations
Key Point: We need humility to let God shift our framework

Scriptures:
• Acts 10:13-15
• James 1:8

III. God Reveals Truth in Two Ways
A. The Slow Revealing
• God patiently corrects us over time
B. The In-a-Moment Revealing
• Peter’s vision changed everything in a single day
• Testimony: BillieMarie’s car vision
Application: Pray for “suddenly” moments of breakthrough

IV. Worship as a Key to the Suddenly
• True worship opens the heart and room for encounter
• Be the person who shows up burning for you and for others
Illustration: Popcorn analogy (cold kernels vs. open hearts)

V. We Need the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
• Not just theology, but tangible power and presence

Scriptures:
• Ephesians 1:13
• Romans 8:9
• Matthew 3:11
• Luke 24:49
• Acts 8:14-17
• Acts 9:17
• Acts 19:2
• 1 Corinthians 13:1

Clarification:
• Yes, all believers have the Spirit at salvation
• But baptism in the Spirit is a separate, experiential empowerment
• Tongues = supernatural overflow; a sign and a immeasurable blessing

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR SMALL GROUPS

  1. In Acts 10, God shows Peter that He is including Gentiles in His plan of salvation. Has God ever challenged one of your long-held beliefs? What did you do with that challenge?

  2. What does it look like to stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s voice in a culture of tradition, routine, or preference?

  3. How can we create environments—in worship or small group—that welcome “suddenly” moments from God?

  4. What’s the difference between having the Holy Spirit and being baptized in the Holy Spirit? Have you experienced both?

  5. What barriers might prevent someone from opening up to the fullness of the Holy Spirit? How can we help each other overcome those?
