God, the future, and you!
Daniel 7
Teaching video by Greg Laurie Subsplash
God never forgets anything. Not about the past, and not about the future. Today we arrived in the second half of the Book of Daniel, dealing with the future.
There were three prominent Babylonian and Persian kings in the book of Daniel: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, and Darius.
In Daniel 7 we go back to the time of reign by king Belshazzar, when Daniel was about 70 years old. It is the beginning of the prophetic chapters. Every Christian should have understanding of Bible prophecy, which is also called eschatology, the study of end time events. For the right understanding of prophecied end time events we should be sudying Revelation (unveiling) and Daniel in tendem, because Revelation 1:3 says God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.
Q1 When and how will we be blessed when we study Bible prophecy? It helps us to remember that God is in control of all events in this world today. It gives us a heavenly perspective. Does it give me which decisions I make today?
Daniel 7:1-4 (NKJV) says 1In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed. Then he wrote down the dream, telling the main facts.2Daniel spoke, saying, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the
The four winds represent four kingdoms on the earth. The sea is very often a representation of humanity. We see the lion is this passage. In later verses we see a bear and a leopard.
Even today we have countries represented by animals. The UK is presented by a lion, the US by an eagle, Russia by a bear, and China by a dragon.
Nations get ready to blow themselves up again each other, as in the days of the Tower of Babel. However, the tower was so little that God couldn’t see it, as Genesis 11:5 says But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
Alike the head of gold (Daniel 3:10) the might of the Babylonian king is portrayed as a winged lion.
Daniel 7:5-8 (NKJV) says 5“And suddenly another beast, a second, like a
The Medo-Persian empire symbolized a future mighty bear (verse 5). The winged leopard (verse 6) symbolized the future Greek Empire, led by Alexander the Great. The terrible fouth beast (verses 7-8) symbolized the future Roman Empire.
Q2 Describe the bear, the leopard, and the fourth beast.
The most cruel was the Roman Empire. First the Senate ruled, but later the leaders decreed. They demanded worship from the citizenry. Thousands of people were beheaded or crucified when refusing worshipping the king, by saying ‘Hail Ceasar’. Our Lord Jesus was crucified by the Romans.
The Roman Empire was never defeated. But the empire fell apart.
Q3 Read again verses 7b-8. The ten horns will be ten nations, which is the federation of nations forming the rule of the Antichrist during the Tribulation period. Notice, the little horn coming up among the other horns. Who do you think is that little horn? What are the characteristics of this figure (verse 8)?
Daniel 7:9-10 (NKJV) says 9“I watched till thrones were put in place, and the
If you want to know what Heaven is about? Read the Bible. Daniel saw God in His glory in his vision. God is called the Ancient of Days. This emphasizes God’s eternal nature. The fire of God’s throne speaks of sin and judgment. The symbolic description of God’s garment and His hair emphasizes His purity an holiness.
Q4 Shouldn’t we have balance when we speak of God in our church services? Not only about God’s love and forgivenes? But also about God’s holiness, righteousness and justice?
Daniel 7:11-14 (NKJV) says 11“I watched then because of the sound of the pompous words which the horn was speaking; I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame. 12As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. 13“I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the
Here we see an Old Testament prophecy as an appearance of Jesus (verse 13).
Q5 What is verse 14 speaking about? Prophecy fulfilled or yet to be fulfilled?
Daniel 7:15-18 (NIV) says 15“I, Daniel, was troubled in spirit, and the visions that passed through my mind disturbed me. 16I approached one of those standing there and asked him the meaning of all this.
“So he told me and gave me the interpretation of these things: 17‘The four great beasts are four kings that will rise from the earth. 18But the holy people of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it forever—yes, for ever and ever.’
Q6 When you read this, are you disturbed, alike Daniel was? You should. Try to described this passage. When will this (verses 17 and 18) happen?
Q7 Why should we be disturbed? There comes a time of judgment (Daniel 7:10 The court was seated, and the books were opened.). Are you ready for the Judgment Seat of Christ event in heaven, which will takes place right after the rapture of the believers?
The books that will be opend are the books containing all deeds done by believers, as Malachi 3:16 (NIV) says Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name. And we believers will be rewarded. Some more than others.
Therefore, pay attention to Galatians 6:9-10 which says 9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
God keeps records of your services. But God also keeps records of your sorrows, Psalm 56:8 (NLT) You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
We all go through hard times. We suffer loss, and people forget your suffering, but God doesn’t forget. Some day He will do to you according to His character.
Q8 There is another book, the Book of Life, the most important book. It appears 14 times in the Bible. Read about the final judgment at the great white throne in Revelation 20:11-15. Are you sure that your name is in that book and why?
