Acts 5:22-42
5:24 | The officials were not as worried about the apostles’ escape as they were about the impact it might have on the people in Jerusalem. For followers of the risen Christ to claim His power on their behalf would only throw fuel on the fire of their passion.
5:34 | Gamaliel, Hillel’s grandson, was the chief exponent and disciple of the Hillel school of the Sanhedrin. He was a highly regarded teacher who was noted for his liberal attitude. Saul of Tarsus was his student.
5:35-39 | Gamaliel probably did not intercede out of sympathy for the message; he possessed enough wisdom to discern whether or not Christianity was just another cult or from God.
5:41-42 | The apostles’ suffering was a blessing to them (Matt. 5:11-12). They had been commissioned by their Lord to take the gospel in to all the world and make disciples of all nations – and that is what they intended to do (Matt. 28:18-20).
