Life Group Questions – March 26th & 27th 2021

This weekend Pastor Al continued our study through the book a Joshua. This week’s message was entitled Sin in The Camp.

We see in the first few verses of chapter 7 of Joshua the Israelite people were confident they could take Ai and only sent a 3 thousand to concur it.

  1. What does Ai’s defeat of Israel tell us about Gods power and authority?
    a. What does it tell us about sin? What was Achan’s root sin or heart posture? How is this different and/or similar to the temptation today?

As we see in Ai’s victory, small obstacles can defeat us when we live in sin.

  1. Some of the consequences of Achan’s sin was death, losing ground, and fear for Israel. Discuss the reach and the effects of sin in the life of God’s chosen and their surroundings.
    a. Read verse 6. From Joshua’s example and other places in Scripture, what is the appropriate response to sin in general? What about someone else’s sin? What about your own?

Pastor Al mentioned Gods long-suffering in giving Achan many opportunities to repent and come clean (v10-15).

  1. What do you think the significance was of Gods remedy to the sin in the camp?
    a. What characteristics of God are demonstrated in this story other than long-suffering?

We see Joshua’s and Achan’s response to God in verse 16-26. Pastor Al then emphasized confession BEFORE exposure.

  1. What did Joshua do in response to God? What did Joshua do in response to Achan being exposed? What did he say?
    a. How did Joshua reflect God in what he said and did? How can we use his example?
    b. Read Proverbs 28:13. Why was Achan not granted mercy for his sins? Are all sins equal?

In conclusion, Pastor Al read Psalm 32:5 and continued to emphasize repentance and confession to God.

  1. How often do you ask God to forgive your every day, human sins? How do you seek repentance in the presence of God? As the Lord leads, what steps can you take to please God more in this category? What is the difference between Jesus being a part of your life and being Lord of your life?
