11.24.24 - Love and Hate (Week 2)
Part of Love and Hate (Message Notes)

Proverbs 6:16-19
16 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

What does God hate?

God hates the loneliness we feel from the distance we create.

How do we create that distance between us and God?

1. Our sin distances us from God

Romans 3:23
23  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

John 3:17
17  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world
through him.

Matthew 23:27
27  “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed
tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and
everything unclean.

James 1:15
15  Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth
to death.

2. Our complacency distances us from God.

“The Christian Atheist” by Craig Groeschel
‘Someone who believes in God but then lives their life as if God doesn't exist.’

Proverbs 1:32
32  For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
    and the complacency of fools will destroy them;

Proverbs 1:32-33
32  For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
    and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
33  but whoever listens to me will live in safety
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Distance creates complacency

Philippians 3:7-9
7  But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.  8  What is more, I
consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for
whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ  9  and be found
in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through
faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

Psalm 10:1
1  Why, Lord, do you stand far off?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

Romans 8:38-39
38  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present
nor the future, nor any powers,  39  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will
be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
