“The Holy Spirit Came on Them…”

Acts 19:1-6

What if there was more to life in Jesus than simply waiting around for eternity? What if He promised a full and powerful life right now? He does, through the gift of the Holy Spirit, which is promised to every believer. Have you received it, or are you as the Ephesians, living as if you didn’t even know there was a Holy Spirit?

For family, small group, and personal reflection

These questions are offered as an optional resource for small group study and further personal growth.

  1. If you are on the 10+10 plan (10 minutes reading your bible + 10 minutes praying each day) (and we pray that you are!) discuss your progress with the group
  2. Read the passage and open with these questions: Who is the Holy Spirit? Does Jesus promise the Holy Spirit to every believer?
  3. Discuss the Holy Spirit’s power of assurance. Can the Spirit reassure you that you are a child of God? Read Roman 8:14-17. How has this happened in your life?
  4. How does the Holy Spirit give believers power over sin?
  5. Is a believer “perfect” (no more sinning) once they receive the Holy Spirit? Is there nuance to this?
  6. Read Galatians 5:22-23 and discuss the fruits of the Spirit. Are they evident in your life? Pick one you want to grow in and pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you and help you.
  7. How does one receive the Holy Spirit? Reread some of the references and discuss.
  8. When did you receive the Holy Spirit? If you are comfortable and want to receive the Holy Spirit for the first time, or as a renewal, ask your group to lay hands and pray for you.
