Our First Focus (Week 13) - A New Walk: Walking in the Will of God (Colossians 3:15-17)

Colossian 3:15-17
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Four Directional Directives

1. Be Governed by God’s Peace.

Colossian 3:15
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Romans 8:7
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

Romans 8:6
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

“When we obey the will of God, we have His peace within, but when we step out of His will (even unintentionally), we lose His peace.” —Warren Wiersbe

2. Be Grounded in God’s Word.

Colossian 3:15-16
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…

1 Thessalonians 4:3
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;

1 Thessalonians 5:18
18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

3. Be Galvanized in God’s Praise.

“Perhaps this “poverty of Scripture” in our churches is one cause of the abundance of unbiblical songs that we have today. A singer has no more right to sing a lie than a preacher has to preach a lie. The great songs of the faith were, for the most part, written by believers who knew the doctrines of the Word of God. Many so-called Christian songs today are written by people with little or no knowledge of the Word of God. It is a dangerous thing to separate the praise of God from the Word of God.” —Warren Wiersbe

4. Be Glorying to God’s Son

Colossians 3:17
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
