Mark 16:1-6
1When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” 4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. 6“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
How does the resurrection of Jesus affect me today?
If you didn’t believe in the resurrection, how would your life be different?
Jesus rose from the dead, He defeated sin and death and faith in Him brings eternal life after this life.
1 Corinthians 15:19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
- If Jesus didn’t get out of the grave, then none of this matters, but if He did and if we believe He did then our lives here should be spent with eternity in mind.
1 Corinthians 15:32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised,
“Let us eat and drink,
for tomorrow we die.”
- Faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is the only way to spend eternity with God.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
- Easter reminds us that our salvation comes from Christ’s work not ours.
Mark 16:6-7
6“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’ ”
- For some of you in this room it’s time to believe in Jesus and for others it’s time to believe in Jesus again.
