Truth: I’m Fine
November 12, 2023

disˈtôrted
adjective
• Pulled or twisted out of shape; contorted.
• Giving a misleading or false account or impression; misrepresented.
“his report gives a distorted view of the meeting”

Big Idea: The longer we look at distorted truth as truth, the more likely we will BELIEVE it as a truth.

1. There’s an invisible world that impacts our visible world every single day.

2. The Bible says there is a distorter of truth. He distorts the truth just enough to get us in trouble, but not enough to scare us away.
John 8:38

3. Jesus believed that the devil’s ultimate agenda was the destruction of human life, and that the means by which he destroyed human life was through DISTORTING the truth.

John 16:33 - “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

DELIGHT Think well of, to delight, to embrace

Weakness: Disease, infirmity, brokenness.

Distorted truth: Saying or acting like you are fine when really you are not.

KEY TRUTH: THERE IS HOPE, HEALING, AND COMFORT BEYOND YOUR HURTS, NOT JUST FOR YOU, BUT FOR YOU TO SHARE WITH OTHERS.

2 Corinthians 1:3 - Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort…

COMFORT MEANS: CALLED TO ONE’S SIDE TO HELP.

Three Reminders:

1. WE HAVE HOPE, HEALING, AND COMFORT IN GOD

2 Corinthians 1:3 - Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,…

“Father of” means: Originator of.

John 14:16-17 - And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth.

• GOD HEALS US THROUGH HIS PRESENCE

2. WE HAVE HOPE, HEALING, AND COMFORT PROMISED TO US.

2 Corinthians 1:4 - …who comforts us in all our troubles…

Romans 8:31-37 - What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died — more than that, who was raised to life — is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?… 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

2 Corinthians 4:7-9 - But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.

3. WE HAVE HOPE, HEALING, AND COMFORT IN GOD, PROMISED TO US, FOR US TO SHARE WITH OTHERS

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 - Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

• GOD HEALS US THROUGH HIS PEOPLE.

Psalms 71:14 - But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more
