1. Read Romans 14:5-6; Colossians 2:16-17; Hebrews 4:9-11
i. What days do we hold “above another” in today’s Christian calendar? What are your thoughts on people who choose not to celebrate these days?
ii. How can Paul tell the Colossians they should “let no one judge” regarding not keeping the fourth commandment? How can Hebrews 4:9-11 help us understand what Paul is saying (note: “rest” in verses 9 and 11 means “cease,” whereas “rest in verse 9 means “Sabbath rest.”
2. Read Romans 14:7-9; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
a. What does “live to the Lord” look like?
b. How should one live who understands “Whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s?”
c. What is the significance of 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
3. Read Romans 14:10-11; Matthew 18:15-17
a. Are there any brothers or sisters in Christ that you wrongly judge (over doubtful things) or have contempt for right now? As a group, take time for silent prayer to confess this to God. If nothing directly comes to mind, pray the Lord would reveal anything that needs to be confessed.
4. Read Romans 14:12-13; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Corinthians 3:10-15
a. Discuss your thoughts after reading these passages.
5. Read Romans 14:14-23
a. What, if any, “doubtful things” have you discovered through our walk through chapter 14 of Romans?
b. Is there anything that you need to let go of for the sake of a brother or sister so God’s work will not be destroyed in their lives? At the same time, is there anything that you, to this point, have disapproved of that you have found God approves of? If you are comfortable, share this with the group.
