This Week’s Power Verse:

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalms 139:23-24

Search me, O God, and know my heart; Psalms 139:23a

The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? Jeremiah 17:9

Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Lord, are the only God. Isaiah 37:20

Test me and know my anxious thoughts. Psalms 139:23b

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1

Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions. Exodus 16:4

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6

And lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalms 139:24b

This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10

CONNECTION GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. Read Jeremiah 17:9. How do you feel about asking God to search your heart? Why is it so important to invite God to know our hearts? In what ways can realizing our hearts mislead us bring us to a more authentic relationship with God?

  2. Read Isaiah 37:20. Pastor Bobby said that one way to determine your own hidden motivations is to add “SO THAT…” to your decisions. How can applying this help reveal your own hidden motivations?

  3. How do you typically respond to having anxious thoughts? Why should you bring these thoughts before God, as suggested in Psalms 139:23b?

  4. Read 1 John 4:1 and 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21. What are some ways we can know whether a teaching we hear is from God or not?. How can having spiritual discernment lead to a healthier spiritual life?

  5. Read Exodus 16:4. What are some ways that God testing the Israelites with the manna show the connection between testing and obeying God? How can you apply that to the tests you face in life?

  6. Read Philippians 4:6. How does praying instead of worrying change our perspective on life’s challenges? Share examples from your life.

  7. How does the closing prayer of Psalms 139:24b line up with Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6:9-10 about God’s will being done on earth? How does praying for God’s will impact our spiritual journey?

  8. How can you practically incorporate the principles of searching, testing, and leading in your daily life? Share specific steps or changes you are choosing to make based on what you learned from this message.

  9. How can your group pray for you this week?
