There are a multiplicity of voices vying for our attention every day of our lives. Some of the voices sound good, but they may not be God’s. So, how do we recognize God’s voice?
What are some of the voices that get your attention?
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” —Genesis 3:1 (NIV)
In the beginning, Satan had a voice. And he still has a voice.
What does Satan’s voice sound like?
One of the best ways to combat Satan’s voice is to be so full of the Holy Spirit (God’s voice) that anything else just doesn’t sound right.
Here are three principles to recognizing the voice of God.
1.God’s voice will encourage my spirit.
One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. 10 For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.” —Acts 18:9-10 (NIV)
Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well. —1 Timothy 1:18 (NIV)
How has God’s voice encouraged you?
2.God’s voice will enable my transformation.
For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son. —Romans 8:29 (NLT)
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. —Romans 12:2 (NLT)
How has God’s voice brought about transformation in your life?
3.God’s voice will enlarge my faith.
Throughout the Bible, those who heard from God were often called to leave their comfort zone and take bold steps of faith.
