Read Philippians 2:5-11
1. This passage eventually gets to the crucifixion, but it begins with the incarnation. Discuss how the incarnation, the crucifixion, and everything Jesus did in between provide a picture of God’s character and His purposes.
2. This passage presents the crucifixion as the primary purpose of Christ coming to earth. Why do you imagine suffering is the way God accomplishes His purposes?
3. What part of this passage is most difficult for you to live up to? Why?

4. The gospel is the power of God to salvation. As succinctly as possible: what is the gospel?
5. In what ways have you seen people (yourself or others) be ashamed of the gospel?
6. According to this passage, for whom is the gospel good news?

7. The ‘disobedience of one man’ clearly refers to Adam. The ‘obedience of one man’ refers to Jesus. Put together a list of the key places where Jesus walked in the kind of obedience that overcame the disobedience of Adam. (Hint: the cross is just one of them)
8. As best as you can put into words, how does the obedience of Christ ‘make many righteous’?

9. How does this passage draw on the imagery of the sacrificial system from the Old Testament to make its point?
