Entrust your life to the Lord.
Psalm 31 is a lament psalm written by David. There is no clear story behind this psalm. David suffers from his enemies and his sin and needs the Lord to rescue him.
vv.1–8—David pleads to the Lord for help while stating his loyalty and remembering what the Lord has done in the past.
vv.9–13—David shares his lament. He is in distress so deep that it wearies his body and soul. He feels forgotten and discarded.
vv.14–18—Still, David remains confident in the Lord. He knows that the Lord holds his life and his days. He prays that the Lord will stop those walking in pride.
vv.19–24—David then closes the psalm in praise, celebrating God’s character. The Lord is good to His people and provides them shelter. He will deal with the wicked as they deserve and bring low those who walk in pride. David’s final appeal is that God’s people love the Lord, be strong and courageous, and wait on Him.
Jesus quotes Psalm 31:5 from the cross in Luke 23:46. He commits Himself completely to the Father’s plan. While it seemed the enemies prevailed, Christ was not forgotten in the grave but raised victorious.
