Focal verse for the year:
The greatest among you will be your servant. —Matthew 23:11 NIV

GENEROSITY: What God wants for you, not from you

After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (or Tiberias). A large crowd was following Him, because they saw the signs which He was performing on those who were sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat down with His disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. Lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward Him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” He said this to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for them, for each of them to get a little.” One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many people?” Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. Jesus then took the loaves, and having given thanks, He distributed to those who were seated; likewise also of the fish as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten their fill, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments so that nothing will be lost.” So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. —John 6:5-13

Is There Enough for Everyone?

God can meet every need no matter how big.
Jesus said, “Have the people sit down”… So the men sat down, about five thousand in number.

God can use every person no matter how small.
There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish.

There is a hunger that only Jesus can meet.
“For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.” Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”

For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” Then they said, “Lord, always give us this bread.” —John 6:33-34 NASB

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” —John 6:35 ESV

Do not work for the food that spoils, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” —John 6:27 ESV

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” —Matthew 5:6
