Day 247 - Honor God with Your Body
Emily Green
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT
Think about this scenario. A friend comes to stay with you temporarily in the house you own. You like to keep the house clean and neat. One night, you come home from work and see trash everywhere! Nothing is clean, and everything is disorganized. How would that make you feel?
I bet that, along with being frustrated and upset, you would feel dishonored. You allowed a friend to stay in your home, and they disrespected your property, which means they disrespected you.
This week, we are discussing the importance of physical health. Physical health is essential because 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says we must honor God with our bodies. God owns our bodies, and the Holy Spirit dwells in us. We were “bought…with a high price” by what Jesus did on the cross. Therefore, we must be careful to take care of the temple of the Holy Spirit.
By increasing our physical health, we will care for our bodies, honoring God to the best of our ability!
Next Steps
- Think about it: Do I treat my body like it’s the temple of the Holy Spirit? Why or why not?
- Action Step: Write out a list of the ways you are currently honoring God with your body.
