Victory belongs to the Lord and He gives it to His people who through faith follow Him into the fight

Two Cautionary Notes
1. We must apply this text carefully
2. God has the right to judge and is a righteous judge

A. Victory Belongs to the Lord

“When God pleads his people’s cause he can deal with giants as with grasshoppers. No man’s might can secure him against the Almighty.” —Matthew Henry - Commentary on the Whole Bible, 239

B. The Lord provides victory to His People

Exodus 15:16 (ESV)16 Terror and dread fall upon them; because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone, till your people, O Lord, pass by, till the people pass by whom you have purchased.

Numbers 23:22 (ESV)22 God brings them out of Egypt and is for them like the horns of the wild ox.

C. The Lord’s people follow in faith

Deuteronomy 3:21–22 (ESV)21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, ‘Your eyes have seen all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings. So will the Lord do to all the kingdoms into which you are crossing. 22 You shall not fear them, for it is the Lord your God who fights for you.’

How do we apply this carefully?

Remember, Victory belongs to the Lord and He gives it to His people who through faith follow Him into the fight

Live by faith
- Love the Lord with your whole being
- Love your neighbor as your self
- Make disciples

Psalm 127:1–3 (ESV)1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. 2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. 3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.

Acts 5:39 (ESV)39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice

Matthew 16:18 (ESV)18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

“If we forbear what God forbids, we shall receive what he promises, and shall be no losers at last by our obedience, though it may seem for the present to be to our loss.” —Matthew Henry - Commentary on the Whole Bible, 239
