Sermon Title: Want Less
Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:6-10

There are 2 ways to restrain greed and increase freedom:

1. Limit how much you own.

2. Practice generosity.

Practical Application for your consideration:

  1. Go through each room in your house and create 5 piles:

    a. Give away
    b. Sell
    c. Throw away
    d. Wait
    e. Keep

  2. Start with the easiest stuff or easiest room. Ask a few basic questions about each item like:

    a. Does it spark joy?
    b. Do I need this?
    c. Is it useful?
    d. Does it aid me or hamper me in my spiritual formation?
    e. Avoid duplicates and collections
    f. Avoid the trap of “but i may use this someday…”

  3. Give first.

  4. Redirect one specific expense.

  5. Give to a person or cause you care about but with special attention towards the poor or the church

  6. Start tithing or increase your tithing.

Additional Notes:

1 Timothy 6:6-10
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
