Journey with Jesus – Living Lives of Selfless Love
Continuing our Lenten series, allowing God’s word to challenge us to die to self and find real life in Jesus.
We need too allow scripture to challange us. If we are never challenged, we are not really reading it. Sometimes it comforts, inspires, and touches our hearts—but it should also confront us.
The Lawyer’s Question (Luke 10:25-29)
- “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
- A good and noble question on the surface, but he asked to test Jesus.
- Jesus responds with a question: “What does the Bible say?”
- The lawyer answers correctly but seeks to justify himself.
The Parable’s Message (Luke 10:30-35)
- The Priest and the Levite: Should have been the heroes, yet they walked by.
- The Samaritan: Showed compassion, sacrificed time, and resources.
- The challenge: Do you really love God and others?
The Challenge (Luke 10:36-37)
- “Which of these three was a neighbor?” The one who showed mercy.
- Jesus: “Go and do likewise.”
Mercy vs. Love (Compassion) – Kingdom Now
- We are called to reflect who God is to the world.
- God is a God of mercy (Daniel 9:18).
- We all fall short, but Romans 5:1 reminds us that we are justified by faith in Jesus.
The Ultimate Good Samaritan
- Jesus stepped into our mess and rescued us at great cost.
- If loving God and others is tied to eternal life, we cannot justify ourselves.
- We love because we have received mercy.
Examine your heart: Are you trying to justify yourself, or have you truly received His mercy?
Live in response to His mercy: We don’t love to earn eternal life—we love because we have been transformed.
Let’s pray.
