INVITE YOUR ONE

Praying and Inviting your one to Jesus

Pastor Gary Moritz

INTRODUCTION

A. People are looking for a place to belong and to connect. They are trying to fill a hole, an emptiness that only a relationship with Jesus can fill. Are you sensitive to this need in the people around you? At work? At school? In your neighborhood? In your family? Did you know that 80% of people would come to church if they were just invited?

“Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” —Luke 14:23

B. Invite Your One is the call to a greater passion to invite people to Jesus. It was and still is the heart of Jesus’ ministry for people to come and experience the power of Christ and the life change He brings. The objective is for you to commit to invite your one and watch God work. It is going to take commitment to pray for your guest, to pray for the guests of others, and to pray for our church as we go and each invite our one.

This series of talks will include:

 June 2 A Greater Work
 June 9 A Greater Time
 TODAY A Greater Church
 June 23 A Greater Responsibility

WEEK 3: A GREATER CHURCH

I. AND IN A LOCAL CHURCH (v. 1-2)

A. Worship is a

“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” —Psalm 34:1b

B. Worship demands

How can you be a “living sacrifice”?

  1. to yourself
  2. for God’s will

“And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.” —Mark 14:36

C. Worship always leads to greater

A church is a

of many people worshiping, sacrificing, and serving together. (Acts 2:44-47)

II. A LIFE OF HUMILITY (v. 3-5)

A.

humility is a realization that …

• God owes us

• We owe God

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,” —1 Peter 5:6

B.

is the opposite of humility

“A man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor.” —Proverbs 29:23

HUMILITY

on God
• putting first

PRIDE

on yourself
• putting first

“For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” —Isaiah 57:15

C. A greater church is a

church (v. 5)

III. SELFLESSLY WITHIN YOUR GIFTS (v. 6-8)

A. Be self-aware

• Don’t think too

of yourself

• Don’t think too

of yourself

B. Know your S.H.A.P.E.

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” —1 Peter 4:10

IV. DIVERSITY WITHIN THE LOCAL CHURCH (v. 3-5)

The more

a church is, the more a church is.

A. A greater church

diversity

groups: people from different socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures
maturity: long-term and new believers
diversity: varying ages and stages of life

B. A greater church

diversity

When a Christ-follower is added to the church, we become both stronger and more diverse, while at the same time we become

in Christ Jesus.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” —Galatians 3:28

CONCLUSION:

Who is your “one”? A greater church worships together, humbly serves one another, and embraces diversity.

Christianity is more than just living a good life. There are plenty of good, moral people who are gener¬ous, charitable, and who help others. True Christianity is doing all those things for God through the local church.

What we do now will resonate for all eternity. Heaven will be filled with Christ-followers from every corner of both the earth and time.

“After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands.” —Revelation 7:9
