MASTERPEACE
“Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.”
Matthew 5:9
“This rock was facing stormy winds and lightning and a crushing waterfall-turmoil-vs. the calm peace of the dove on its nest, secure in the cleft of the rock.” - Jack E. Dawson (Painter/Artist)
I. PEACE IS ONLY PEACE WHEN THINGS AREN’T PEACEFUL.
“I have told you these things, so that you will find Peace in me, for in this world you will have trouble. But take heart. I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
The world has convinced us to seek out a counterfeit peace. A peace that doesn’t really exist:
- Biblical peace isn’t what you feel when everything is right, peace is what you have despite everything being wrong.
“We are hard-pressed in every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down , but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)
“Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4)
“He will keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him” (Isaiah 26:3)
II. PEACE ISN’T THE ABSENCE OF YOUR PAIN AND STRESS, PEACE IS THE AWARENESS OF HIS PRESENCE AND STRENGTH.
TWO TYPES OF BIBLICAL PEACE:
- Peace WITH God
- Peace OF God
THE PEACE WITH GOD - is abiding in Him in the midst of your turmoil.
PEACE OF GOD - speaks about the state of your salvation and not the state of your suffering.
“Dead in our trespasses and sin” (Ephesians 2:1)
“Our sin was like filthy rags before God” (Isaiah 64:6)
Jesus called us “Workers of iniquity” (Matthew 7:23)
Paul says we were considered the “Children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3)
“We were enemies of God” (Romans 5:10)
Jesus the Peace Maker brokered a peace treaty between the Father and man by providing salvation for us while satisfying the righteousness of God.
Making Peace is not about avoiding and running away from tension.
Jesus said, “I didn’t come to bring peace but a sword, to set a man at variance against his house…” (Matthew 10:34:35)
You can’t avoid conflict if you want to be a peacemaker because that’s literally what you’re doing - MAKING peace.
You’re going out of your way to rebuild it, reconstruct it, re-make it and bring it to your world, the way Jesus brought it to this world.
III. THE ONLY PATH TO PEACE, IS THE PATH TO THE PERSON AND WORK OF JESUS CHRIST.
