Introduction:

The Acts of the Apostles is a book in the Bible that shows the Holy Spirit in action in the people who followed Jesus after His resurrection. It emphasizes a “Go and Be” lifestyle. This collection highlights the ministries of Peter and Paul through the eyes of the book’s author, Luke. Luke retells the stories of the first Church focusing on its formation, fervor, and fortitude.

“These men who have turned the world upside down have come here too,” —Acts 17:6b

The key verse Acts 1:8 provides the outline for the entire book:

  • The Formation of the Church – Jerusalem (1:1-7:60)
  • The Fervor of the Church – Judea and Samaria (8:1-12:25)
  • The Fortitude of the Church – Uttermost Parts of the Earth (13:1-28:31)

In this collection, we will look at the sermons that Peter and Paul preached that led to the spread of the story that Jesus is alive.

Text: Acts 20:17-38 (CSB, New Testament)

Today’s Takeaway: God wants His Church to multiply.

Week 7 - GO AND BE MULTIPLIERS

I. LEADERS TO LEAD (v 17)

“What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” —2 Timothy 2:2

II. LEADERS TO LEAD (vs 18-35)

Paul summarizes the Gospel ministry in three ways.

A. He reviews the

with his leaders.

  1. Paul reminds them of his

    ministry. (vs 18-21, 31)

  2. Paul reminds them of his

    ministry. (vs 26-27)

  3. Paul reminds them of his

    ministry. (vs 33–35)

B. He overviews the

with his leaders.

  1. Paul

    his destiny. (vs 22–25)

  2. Paul

them regarding their responsibility. (vs 28, 32)

“Shepherd God’s flock among you, not overseeing out of compulsion but willingly, as God would have you; not out of greed for money but eagerly; 3not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 5In the same way, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. All of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble”. —1 Peter 5:2-5

C. He previews the

with his leaders.

Paul warns them to watch out for false teachers in the church.

  1. The

    of these men (v 29)

  2. The

    of these men (v 30)

“There were indeed false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves.
2Many will follow their depraved ways, and the way of truth will be maligned because of them. 3They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.” —2 Peter 2:1-3

III. FOR YOUR LEADERS TO LEAD (vs 36–38)

“Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ. 4For he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before him. 5He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6to the praise of his glorious grace that he lavished on us in the Beloved One.” —Ephesians 1:3-6

CONCLUSION: What steps do you need to take to be a multiplier?

Your Next Steps In House Final 8.5 X 11.jpg

DEEP DIVES:

  1. Have you ever trained someone to replace you? How did it go?

  2. What percentage of success do you think is necessary before you entrust someone you’re training to lead? 90%? 80%? 70%? 100%?

  3. What are some ways we can watch out for false teachers in the church?

  4. Who can you begin to pour into in order to begin the process of multiplication in your life?
