SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE
Big Idea
“Gateway Church exists to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.”
Read: 1 Corinthians 10:1-7, Matthew 28:18-20
Consider the history of our church’s mission statement. How do you feel about the change from “Gateway Church exists to connect people to Jesus Christ and to one another” to “Gateway Church exists to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ”?
Matt warned us against glorifying ourselves, but glorifying God in all things. What are some areas in your life that point to an elevation of self rather than to our Creator? Can we shift our mindset so that God is glorified in those areas?
How does the Great Commission inspire or challenge you personally? How can you live out the call to make disciples in your everyday life, both locally, nationally, and internationally? How can your Life Group help you?
Matt mentioned five characteristics of a disciple: Word and Spirit Christians, generous, family, disciples who make disciples, and Kingdom-minded. How do these characteristics align with your understanding of a disciple?
Which of these five characteristics resonates with you the most, and why? Which ones need more of your focus?
Share your overall thoughts on the sermon. Did it challenge you or encourage you? What practical steps can you take to align yourself with our church’s new mission?
