BUILDING MY FAITH
A Little Into a Lot
June 1, 2025
Colossians 2:6-7 - Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. HCSB
Hebrews 11:8 - By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went out to a place he was going to receive as an inheritance; he went out, not knowing where he was going. HCSB
WHY ARE WE DOING IT?
Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
DEVELOP OUR SPIRITUAL MATURITY BY STRETCHING OUR FAITH.
James 1:2-4 - Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
I. HOW FAITH IN JESUS TURNS A LITTLE INTO A LOT.
Mark 6:34-44 – The Miracle of Feeding the 5,000
STEP 1. ADMIT I HAVE AN UNSOLVABLE PROBLEM.
Mark 6:34-37 - When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. 35 By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. 36 Send the people away so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37 But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take eight months of a man’s wages!
Three typical responses when we have an unsolvable problem in our life:
A. WE PROCRASTINATE.
B. WE PASS THE BUCK.
C. WE WORRY.
Question: Has God ever asked you to do something impossible?
STEP 2. GIVE GOD WHAT LITTLE I ALREADY HAVE.
Mark 6:38 - “‘How many loaves do you have?’ Jesus asked. ‘Go and see.’ When they found out, they said, ‘Five small loaves of bread and two fish.’”
• Principle: God always STARTS with what I have.
John 6:5-6 - When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
God always has the ANSWER before I even know the problem.
STEP 3.
John 6:8-9 - Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
Mark 6:41 - Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.
• Principle: God will use whatever I GIVE him.
STEP 4. EXPECT GOD TO MULTIPLY IT.
Mark 6:42-43 - They all ate and were satisfied, 43 and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish.
• Principle: Whatever I give HIM, I always get back MORE.
Mark 10:27 - “All things are possible with God.”
John 12:24-26 - I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
