What we need cancelled is

As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. —Psalm 103:12-14 (ESV)

Unfortunately,

is often what is

Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants… —Matthew 18:21-22 (ESV)

Forgiveness

us from things that us

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. —Ephesians 4:31-32 (NIV)

“I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” —Isaiah 43:25 (ESV)

We need to be a people that

sin and rather than forgiveness

…and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. —Matthew 6:12 (ESV)

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. —1 Peter 4:8 (ESV)

What are you still

to of?

Notes:

Discussion Questions:

1 – How does our culture represent cancelling forgiveness versus cancelling sin and offenses?

2 – Read Matthew 18:21-35. Do you often find yourself keeping record of your ‘forgivenesses’ for someone? What does that do to our relationships and ourselves?

3 – Read 1 Peter 4:8. What does this love look like when someone has offended or sinned against us deeply?

4 – What are you still working to let go of? What can you do to take steps in forgiveness this week?

5 – Pray for each other to grow in forgiveness and walk in the freedom it brings.
