Series: Seeking God
Sermon Title: Part 2 - Don’t Give Up On Prayer
Scripture: Luke 18:1-8
Speaker: Pastor Mark Pospisil

Questions:

  1. Do you believe that God hears all of your prayers? Why or why not?

  2. What is your greatest source of discouragement when it comes to prayer? Why is that the case?

  3. When you pray and God seems silent, how long does it take (of praying and receiving silence) before you start struggling with discouragement?

  4. Do we have to “pester” God with our prayer requests to such a degree that He will finally relent and grant our request?

  5. When God is silent with regard to our prayer requests, what are some of the things that might be going on in that silence?

  6. When God is silent with regard to our prayer requests, do you keep praying the same request over and over, or should you make some changes to your prayer? If you should make some changes, what would some examples of those changes be, and why? What role does praise, adoration, thanksgiving, and confession serve in praying without losing heart?

  7. In Luke 18:7, Jesus asks the question as to whether or not God will delay bringing justice to those of His who cry out to Him day and night. How would you explain it when God does not answer our prayer requests exactly as we ask it, immediately after we ask for it?

  8. In Luke 18:8, Jesus explains that God will give justice “speedily” or “swiftly” to those who cry out to Him day and night (as described in v.7). Does that speed or swiftness refer to a short time after the request is prayed; or does it refer to the manner in which God acts when He does respond, regardless of the time that has lapsed?

Read Matthew 6:10 and Luke 11:2, where Jesus instructs us to pray for God’s kingdom.
