Life is full of storms—unexpected, painful moments that shake us to our core. This weekend, our hearts are heavy as several are in the depths of grief — with the sudden loss of life — and others are dealing with very difficult life situations. In moments like these, it’s easy to feel lost, afraid, and overwhelmed. Psalm 27 gives us a song of hope amid life’s storms. It reminds us that even when darkness surrounds us, fears mount, and uncertainty threatens to take hold, we have a God who is our light, salvation, and refuge. Today, as we open this psalm together, we’ll see how trusting in God’s presence gives us strength—not just to survive—but to face life’s most significant challenges with courage and hope.
I. 27:1-3 - The Lord is my Light and Salvation
A. Psalm 27:1a “The Lord is my
and my salvation— whom should I fear?” B. Psalm 27:1b: “The Lord is the
of my life— whom should I dread?” C. We can find firm footing.
- Psalm 27:3: “Though an army deploys against me, my heart will not be afraid; though a war breaks out against me, I will still be

II. 27:4-6 - One Thing I Seek
A. Psalm 27:4: “I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to
in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple.” B. Enemies may attack, but David would not be afraid because he focused on God.
C. John 14:1-2: “Don’t let your heart be
. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”
We have our own mansions; can we set our eyes on a room in his house?
“I’m not distracted; I’m seeking your face.”
III. 27:7-12 - Desperate Pleading
A. Psalm 27:7: “Lord, hear my voice when I call; be gracious to me and answer me. My heart says this about you: “Seek his face.” Lord, I will
your face. Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or abandon me, God of my salvation.” B. It is in the weakest moments where we’re better enabled to lean on God.
2 Corinthians 12:9b-10: “I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am

IV. 27.13-14 - Concluding Hope
A. Psalm 27:13-14: “I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart be courageous.
for the Lord.” B. These verses provide comfort.
We will see God’s goodness while we live in the land of the living … but we must wait for the Lord.
Be strong, don’t be afraid. Set your heart and hope on Jesus.
