1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Sermon notes
September 8, 2024

Not all things are what they appear to be. This is true in our world and even inside the Bible. Today we have one of these times.

People in the church at Corinth were using spiritual gifts as a ladder of success. The greater the gift, the more spiritual one was. Paul reveals to them and to us that the greatest gift to believers, to all believers is to love other as Jesus loves us.

Our phrase this morning is love believes all things. This word is used over 200 times in the New Testament. However, it does not suggest or mean that we are to ok with everything.

The word believe means to have faith in, or believe in, or to trust.

This adds to our description, Love that believes all things is love that communicates confidence, or encouragement.

Have you ever felt lead to do something the LORD wanted you to do, but were scared to death? We might react like Moses in Exodus when our LORD told him to lead the people out of Egypt. I am sorry LORD, but you have the wrong person. I cannot do this. I am not trained, have no experience, and therefore I have no business leading anyone. However the LORD began to encourage him.

Exodus 3:12a So He said, “I will certainly be with you.”

This is how He still encourages us.

  1. He does so by calling us.
  2. He equips the called. I love this saying: “God equips the called, and do not called the equipped.”
  3. He provides us opportunities to use our calling.

Our opportunity begins with our loving Him in return, truly showing our love to Him. But I already love Him? Here is a question for us, do we (you and me)truly love the LORD? If we do then we would more time with Him, then we do anyone or anything else.

If we truly love Him, then we would declare it to the world. So do you truly love Jesus this morning?
