Lesson Overview: Find Faith
The Book of Numbers is all about the Children of Israel and their journey from bondage in Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land. This journey was filled with lots of problems and struggles. One of the problems and struggles was when Moses sent 12 spies into the land to see what it was like. When they returned, ten of the spies told the people they could not conquer the land, and two said they could. This dilemma caused most of the people that had lived in Egypt to die in the wilderness. Only Joshua and Caleb entered the land. They entered the land because they found faith. Let’s look at how God moves us by faith to our preferred future.
Have you ever felt like God called you to something that was both exciting and risky at the same time? Explain.
Read Numbers 13:1. What was God asking Moses to do? Why do you think He wanted them to spy on the land when He had already told them it would be theirs?
Read Numbers 13:30,32. Describe the difference between Caleb’s and Joshua’s attitude toward the land and the other ten spies.
Read Numbers 13:31. What was the message coming from the ten spies in this verse? How do we stand strong when everyone else is going a different direction?
Are there any places in your life where you feel like you are a part of the minority? Is that a struggle for you?
Read Hebrews 3:18 and Numbers 14:30,38. What was the fate of the ten spies that did not find faith?
Has there ever been a time in your life where you stepped out in faith and received a blessing after you did?
Do you ever find yourself feeling like you are missing your Promised Land because you lack faith?
