PARENTING WHEN THE HOME IS BROKEN

II Kings 22-23

I. INTRODUCTION:
A. Revisiting Christ-centered parenting from your
Parenting Manuel: (10 messages)
1. Two parents daily walking with God: (II Cor. 6:14)
(8 messages)
2. Prepping your child to stand alone in their teen years:
(Dan. 1:1-9)
3. Framing your parenting with daily prayer:
(I Sam. 1:27-28)
4. Shepherding the heart vs. modifying behavior:
(Pro. 4:23)
5. Cultivating taste and shaping the will (dealing with
authority): (Pro. 22:6)
6. Maintaining Christ-centered family priorities:
(Mt. 6:33)
7. Nourishment + exercise x time = maturity (to
reproduce = fruitfulness) (Jn. 15:8)
B. Our national dilemma with broken families:

C. Gaining a cross section of your community through the
school system: (insulation not isolation – Jn. 17:15)

D. Fruitfulness, the “litmus test” of your parenting:
What “fruit” is all about: Fruit is designed for the enjoyment of those
around me. Fruit glorifies the Father because it makes Jesus a reality
to everyone around me. Fruit is my passion to tell God’s love story,
to anyone who has yet to experience it. More fruit is to sacrificially
serve with others (local church) to be even more productive in telling
God’s love story. Much fruit is abandoning my life to individually
build into others, so that God’s love story will be shared for years to
come. (Compare Jn. 21:19,22; with Mk. 1:17)

II. THE GOD FACTOR FOR BOKEN HOMES: (See Eph. 3:20)
A. A little boy’s dysfunctional home:
1. His wicked father and grandfather: 21:16-22
2. Murder in the home before the age of eight: 21:23-26
(II Chr. 33:24-25)

B. The single mom, an overlooked incredible resource,
and God:
1. His mother - Jedidah: 22:1
2. The incredible resource – Hilkiah the high priest: 22:8
3. The faithfulness of God:

C. The fruitfulness in a limited amount of time: (II Ki. 23:25)
1. Repairing the temple: 22:3-8 (See also (II Chr. 34:8-13)
2. Humility in hearing the words of the Book: 22:10-13
(II Chr. 34:14-21)
3. The reading of the word and his covenant: 23:1-3
(II Chr. 34:29-30)
4. The Passover reinstituted: 23:21-24 (II Chr. 35:1-3, 7-
9, 12, 16, 18-19)
5. Peace for the duration of his brief reign: 22:19-20;
23:26-28 (Fruit – two empires)
III. PRINCIPLES TO PERSONALLY APPLY:
(Together becoming “people of the Word” in principle AND in practice)
A. As a church, our purposeful commitment to our
community begins with our own family, even if it is
currently broken.
B. To reach families with the Gospel beyond our own,
requires temporal sacrifices both of time and resources.
(How would Jesus reach the little ones of this community?)

C. Churches driven with vision, are compiled of families
that embrace vision. (Pro. 29:18)

Sinners Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I was made by you and I was made for you, but
I have been living for myself. I am sorry for that self-rule you call sin.
I believe that Jesus Christ being my creator God, died, was buried,
and rose again to pay the insurmountable debt that my sin has
created since birth. So right now, I am turning from a life of going my
own way, to by faith, place my trust in Jesus Christ, to pay the debt of
all my sin, and to get me to heaven, when I breath my last breath.
Lord Jesus, from today on, I am yours. Thanks for saving me, this
very moment, in Jesus name, Amen.
