Ice breaker:
What extreme sport have you tried or are most willing to try?
Discussion Questions:
1) Did anything stick out to you from the message, or did you have any questions?
2) Scotty used the analogy of a rouge wave to describe the unexpected trials we go through. Have you ever been through a rouge wave experience in your life?
3) What can we learn from Jesus’ model to surrender to the cross instead of asking God to change his circumstances?
4) Scotty said that surrender is not the same as detaching ourselves emotionally. How did that strike you? What does surrender look like instead of detachment?
5) Scotty said, God can only bless us where we are but only if we surrender to God where we are. Do you ever find yourself resisting where you are? What blessing do you think you miss out on by not surrendering to where God has you?
6) Scotty summarized the 12 step program as “I can’t. God can. I Think I’ll let him,” and said this is a model of surrender. Does any of this resonate with your present circumstances? Is there any place you need to surrender?
7) How can we support one another in surrendering (accountability, prayer, specific support, etc.)?
