Day 7: Preparing the Way

Scripture Reading: Luke 3:1-6 (NLT)
1 It was now the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius, the Roman emperor. Pontius Pilate was governor over Judea; Herod Antipas was ruler over Galilee; his brother Philip was ruler over Iturea and Traconitis; Lysanias was ruler over Abilene. 2 Annas and Caiaphas were the high priests. At this time a message from God came to John son of Zechariah, who was living in the wilderness. 3 Then John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan River, preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven. 4 Isaiah had spoken of John when he said,

“He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!
Clear the road for him!
5 The valleys will be filled,
and the mountains and hills made level.
The curves will be straightened,
and the rough places made smooth.
6 And then all people will see
the salvation sent from God.’”
–Luke 3:1-6 (NLT)

Devotional:
In the wilderness, John the Baptist’s voice echoed, urging all to prepare the way for the Lord. His message still rings true today: Prepare your hearts for Jesus. Let’s make room for Him, allowing His presence to shape us for His divine purpose.

Whether you’re a seasoned believer or a spiritual babe, we need to reflect on John’s call, considering your own hearts. Is it a well-prepared place for the King? Is our heart a weed-ridden and overgrown garden or is it an intentional space where His love, light and life are not just accepted but made welcome. Take a moment to prepare the soil of your soul, removing any obstacles, and welcome Jesus into the very core of your being. Let’s offer him the messy areas of our hearts and invite Him to transform us.

Reflect:
How are you making room for the love, joy and fullness of Jesus to fill your heart and mind?

Application:
Today, be intentional about making room for Jesus in your daily life. Seek to align your thoughts, words, and actions with His will. Prepare the way for Him in your workplace, family, and community.

Let’s live it! What is God directing you to do in response to His Word?

Prayer:
Dear Lord, just as John prepared the way, by the power of your Holy Spirit, please help me to prepare my heart to receive You fully. Help me to partner with you to remove any barriers and distractions. May my life be a ready vessel for Your purposes. I pray this in the beautiful and mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
