Money Shouldn't Make You.jpg

Generosity

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to

than to receive.’ —Acts 20:35
For God so loved the world that he —John 3:16
If love gives, you can’t without giving.

7 But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also

in this grace of giving.8 I am not commanding you (gift to Judea is voluntary), but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. 10 And here is my judgment about what is best for you in this matter. Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. 11 Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. 12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. —2 Corinthians 8:7-12

  • Generous is who we are, giving is what we do.

The more money you make won’t make you more generous, it will make you more of

you are.

  • Luke 16:10-11  Whoever can be trusted with very can also be
trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also
be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in
handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

1. Generous people give

.

But a generous man

generous things, and by generosity, he shall stand. —Isaiah 32:8

2. Generous people give

.

11 Give in proportion to what you

. 12 Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have. —2 Corinthians 8:11-12 NLT
23 … For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should , yes, but do not neglect the more important things. —Matthew 23;23

  • Tithing can break the cycle of scarcity and create a new cycle of .
  • The world of the gets larger and larger but the world of the greedy smaller and smaller. (Proverbs 11:24)

3. Generous people give

41 Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. 42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. 43 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. 44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given

she had to live on.” —Mark 12:41-44
