INTRO
Last week, we talked about spiritual disciplines and how they connect to our discipleship with others. But here’s the truth—spiritual disciplines are impossible
to live out fully unless we understand and rely on the source of our strength:
the Holy Spirit.
Today, we’re going to be in the book of John and see what Jesus told His disciples about the Holy Spirit before He ascended to heaven.
It confirms to us how important it is to listen to the Holy Spirit.
Listening is a key element in being a Christ Follower.
Take out your Bibles, let’s look at our text for this morning!
TEXT
“There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’” —John 16:12-15 NLT
TEACHING
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY BEING SPIRIT LED; SPIRIT EMPOWERED?
Experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit.
Teaching the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked.
And they replied, “The baptism of John.”
Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin.
But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”
As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them,
and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied. —Acts 19:3-6 NLT
- Practicing the Gifts of the Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit in our daily lives, churches, and campus ministries.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.
And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—
in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” —Acts 1:8 NLT
- Empowers us to spread the gospel and serve in the church and our communities.
