Text: Genesis 3:1-13
Topic: Why our hearts are prone to wander.
Application Point: When our hearts have wandered away from Christ, we have believed lies.
Sermon Title: The lies that we love to believe.

Context:

The Fall is seeking to live outside of God.

Revelation 12:9 (LSB)
9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Genesis 3:1-3 (LSB)
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which Yahweh God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God said, ‘You shall not eat from it, and you shall not touch it, lest you die.’”

Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”

The six lies of Genesis 3

  1. God’s Word cannot be trusted.
  2. We minimize the cost of sin.
  3. We convince ourselves that it is for our own good.
  4. We can fix the problem on our own.
  5. We can still maintain fellowship with God.
  6. The problem is outside of me.
