Scripture: Luke 6:17-26
Takeaway: God’s voice heals us.

Take some time to share:
• One thing that you are thankful for this week.

• One thing you need.

• How can the group help?

Bible Discussion: Read Luke 6:17-26
• Read today’s passage a couple of times.

• What jumps out at you most? The first half or the second? Explore why that is?

• This passage is interesting because it doesn’t simply stop after verse 23. The first half is a soothing balm for the oppressed, and the second half is a stinging jab for those that feel they are on the “inside” and need a reality check.

• What must it have been like to HEAR his words directly?

Application:
• In C.S. Lewis’s book Prince Caspian (a part of his Chronicles of Narnia series), there is a point in the book when the Pevensies children are sleeping outdoors as they make their way through the thick forest of Narnia. This is what it says:

“Lucy woke out of the deepest sleep you can imagine, with the feeling that the voice she liked best in the world had been calling her name. She thought at first it was her father’s voice, but that did not seem quite right. Then she thought it was Peter’s voice, but that did not seem to fit either. She did not want to get up; not because she was still tired—on the contrary she was wonderfully rested and all the aches had gone from her bones—but because she felt so extremely happy and comfortable.” —C.S. Lewis, Prince Caspian

This scene captures what a voice that you love does to you when you hear it.

• Think for a moment about the voice you like best in the whole world calling your name. How does it make you feel? What does it make you want to do?

• God’s voice is like that. It makes us alive. It formed and shaped us. This is the power that drew people to Jesus in today’s Gospel reading. They came “to hear and be healed.”

Challenge: Words have the power to heal & to harm. This week, use your words to bring healing & hope to someone you love. May your voice be what makes them feel “extremely happy & comfortable.”
