Life Group Questions – November 7th & 8th 2020
This weekend Pastor Al shared a message on finishing well with us from Acts 20:1-24.
We saw the initial story of this passage was about Eutychus falling asleep while Paul was teaching and fell out of the window.
- Pastor Al said that Eutychus name meant “fortunate” even though he fell out of the window and died! Just as Paul laid hands on him and brought him back, has there been a situation in your life where God has lifted you out of a completely hopeless situation?
a. If you have experienced a miraculous thing in your own life, how have you let that effect your walk with Jesus? Have you taken it for granted?
Pastor Al presented 5 Characteristics of Finishing Well. The first characteristic is Humility and Pastor Al makes a strong point that God resists the proud James 4:6.
- Humility is one of the hardest things to stick to as a human. In what ways do you struggle with staying humble and how can you combat this intentionality. See Proverbs 15:33.
a. How do we know what true humility is? Scripture gives us many clear examples of it without making it a checklist.
Pastor Al made the point that Paul saw his life as a resource for the Kingdom when talking about his second point of being a witness.
- If our lives are all resources for Christ to use, what can we bring to the table? What specific abilities or gifts can we exercise?
a. Pastor Al also says we must be a comfort and hope to the world through presenting the Gospel. Can we say that we fit this description? Why or Why not?
Pastor Al moved on to point 3 and talked about binding our spirits to Christ.
- Binding our spirit has to be an intentional thing, what feelings/thoughts/decisions do you need to bind to Jesus this week? See Isaiah 64:8 and Romans 9:20.
a. Last week there was a challenge to act out the love of Christ, how did you do? (remember Gods grace)
The 4th point of Pastor Al’s Characteristics of running well is Holy Resolve.
- Pastor Al said that what moves us reveals who we trust. What moves you? How can you be more receptive to the Holy Spirit when he calls you to move?
Pastor Al ends with the 5th Characteristic of Finishing Well, Grace!
- How does the grace of God help us to finish our race and do so with Joy?
