Scripture: Psalm 119:9-14
Big Idea: If we wish to orient ourselves to God’s will, we must begin by learning God’s word and applying it to our lives.

Take some time to share:
• One thing that you are thankful for this week.

• One thing you need.

• How can the group help?

Bible Discussion: Read Psalms 119:9-14
• What about this passage stands out to you as you read?

• What does it mean to hide the God’s word in our hearts?

• Do you think this passage is referring to memorizing scripture?

• Is just knowing the scripture enough?

Application:
If you’ve ever participated in a book club, you probably know how to recognize when someone didn’t do the reading. They may still benefit from being in the book club, but they would be much better served if they’d read the book and prepared to talk about it. The same is true in our faith. Showing up to church without ever opening you Bible is of value, but it would be far better if you read and studied the Bible on your own too.
• What are some of the dangers of attending a church without reading the Bible for yourself?

• Likewise, what are some of the dangers of only spending time reading scripture outside of a community of faith?

• How can we go beyond memorization to internalization? What does it look like to embody the word of God?

CHALLENGE: Scripture is a great place to start when seeking to live out God’s will on Earth. Take some time this week to read all of Psalm 119 (the longest chapter in the Bible).

*Lost In Translation: Note the symbols in your Bible above each section (if your Bible does not have them, you can see them by searching the verse on biblegateway.com). Psalm 119 was written as a Hebrew Acrostic Poem with each stanza (and the verses within) beginning with the corresponding letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Pretty cool!
